Uwe Boll's fantasy action film In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale has just completed its theatrical release, leaving a trail of widely negative reactions. Directed by Boll, who also produced, and written by Doug Taylor, the film stars Jason Statham as a farmer who must rescue his kidnapped family and avenge his son's death in a fantasy kingdom. The expansive cast also includes Leelee Sobieski, John Rhys-Davies, Ron Perlman, Claire Forlani, and Burt Reynolds. Based loosely on the Dungeon Siege video game, this fantasy epic aimed for a grand, medieval adventure. At the box office, In the Name of the King was a commercial flop, failing spectacularly to recoup its significant budget and becoming one of the biggest financial disappointments of its year. Critical reception was overwhelmingly negative. Professional film reviewers universally panned the film for its terrible script, wooden acting, generic plot, and poor special effects.
